Zircon's story
!!! AVAILABLE for Adoption & to Love Local Partners with ACCT Philly !!!
Zircon - A#40441905
Intake Type: Stray
Weight: 70 lbs.
Medical Observation: NSF
Behavior Observation: (12/31 Per Volunteer Evaluation) Zircon was barking consistently at other dogs and people in his kennel but allowed easy leashing. He pulled very strongly on his leash the entire walk. I attempted to harness him with the slip lead, but after taking a few steps he laid down and refused to walk until the harness was removed. He chased a tennis ball in the yard but did not take possession. He seeks pets and would jump up to give a "hug." He received affection appropriately until he started mouthing when his belly was rubbed. He was easily redirected and calmed almost immediately after I stopped petting him.
I also had Zircon on an adoption meet with an adopter's dog. Zircon was initially in the play yard when adopter asked to meet him and both dogs sniffed and exchanged appropriate inteactions through the yard fence. Once we left the yard, Zircon was fixated on dog and could not be distracted to look away. After several laps around the parking lot we attempted a meet. Zircon repeatedly tried to jump on top of the adopter's dog. Although adopter's dog was tolerant, we did not push the meet any further. Zircon remained fixated on adopter's dog and strongly pulled leash toward him until he was out of sight.

Personality: Zircon's finder had him in the home for about a week. He described Zircon as "playful" and said he did fine with kids in the home. Zircon has been shut down since arriving at the shelter, but was fairly easy to leash and get moving out of the kennel. He was very good at "sit" and after checking out the room for a few moments, came right up to us for some loving. He enjoyed our butt scratches especially. We kept the hangout short to avoid over-arousal. Zircon could really use a placement where he could thoroughly decompress and be the playful guy he wants to be.
