Kinley Joy's story

KINLEY JOY - A#40786638
Short and stocky and so stinkin' Kinley Joy! This cutie is 4 yo and 60 lbs. Kinley is kind of shy and still trying to figure out what shelter life is all about. She walks well on leash, enjoyed meeting new friends outside and was happy for some one on one attention. Kinley Joy would be much happier with a nice family to call her own...come on down and meet her soon.
Intake Type: Stray
Weight: 63 lbs.
Medical Observation:
Reason for Vet Check: Possibly pregnant, skin issues, limping on right hind leg
Signalment: adult (2-4y) female intact pittie/mastiff type mix
Weight: 62.4 lbs
Musculoskeletal: ambulatory x4 but holds right hind leg slightly abducted when walking, marked crepitus in right stifle and moderate thickening in both stifles but worse on the right. Some drawer appreciated in right stifle and walking more stiffly with mild limp after orthopedic exam but did not act painfully while assessing
BCS= 4/9
Neuro: BAR, no mentation deficits
Behavior: very friendly
Oropharynx, Dental: mild staining to teeth, looks more nutritional than age, mm pink and moist
Ears, Eyes, Nose, Throat: clean eyes, ear canals mild ceruminous debris no stenosis of canals or erythema but external pinnae scaled and crusted like rest of skin, no nasal discharge or cough
Respiratory: WNL
Cardiac: WNL
Abdomen: Soft and non-painful, tucked profile and empty, no uterine distension or fetuses palpated
Reproductive/Urogenital: intact female, mature nipples consistent with previous litters but involuted chain and not active
Skin/PLN: yeasty odor to skin all over, skin on ventrum is hyperkeratotic and likenified, scaling over dorsum, all four paw pads erythematous but no ulcerations, no true alopecia. some nails extremely long
***Not pregnant, chronic secondary skin infection, suspect underlying allergies (food vs atopy vs other) vs other and skin is unlikely to resolve without addressing underlying issue, would benefit from limited ingredient diet/food trial which is not feasible in shelter setting; skin on ventrum not healthy enough for spay at this time; right hindlimb suspect old cruciate tear that is stabilizing medically, but would benefit from pain medications while still healing/scarring down***
Medical treatments:
Carprofen 100mg PO SID x5 days, ***may need longer course but should have bloodwork monitoring prior to long-term use***
Derm Caps SID x 14 days
Clindamycin 11mg/kg SID x14 days
Medicated baths with Malaseb type product twice weekly x3 weeks
Trimmed some really long nails, but would still benefit from full nail trim
***Pathway: Ok for all pathways - recommend rescue for dermatology/allergy work-up +/- food trial but can be adopted with waiver for skin. unable to spay until skin improved/resolved.***
Behavior Observation:
Per vet staff -- very friendly
Personality: Meet our new Lumpy Space Princess! Miss Kinley Joy is one crusty, low riding beauty. She's been easily handled at the shelter and mellow thus far interacting with humans in the yard and other dogs through a fence. She's an independent woman who loves to snort around and gobble up a tasty treat or two, but after all the snuffaluffs will come over for some ear scratches, please. It would be great if Kinley Joy could shuffle her way into a rescue placement that can provide a dermatology/allergy work up and then grunt along into the forever home of all our lumpy dreams!
